Sustainable Tourism Programme Completed

Image
The first Sustainability program for the Taupo region finished this week with speeches made by eleven operators about achievements made during the 12 week programme. On Tuesday I completed a 12 week Tourism Industry Aotearoa Sustainable Tourism Programme alongside eleven other Taupo Operators. We presented our achievements with short speeches detailing sustainable changes we are making in our businesses and plan to continue making into the future. The presentations were a beginning of our collective long term hopes for a sustainable region. I hope to see other groups go through the process in the near future. Lava Glass were our hosts for the afternoon. We celebrated with delicious platters and prosecco. Sail Barbary is an ecofriendly company

Customer focused and progressive we developed NZ’s first commercial electric yacht in 2010. From the goal of reducing carbon emissions we have evolved to embrace Sustainability as our core value.  Sail Barbary is currently involved with Tourism Industry Aotearoa (TIA) and Love Taupo’s sustainability 12 week programme. The group has been learning together and sharing information about the sustainability work we have been doing so far.  I have been looking at Carbon calculators to measure our carbon footprint. This year we went with EKOS. We measured our emissions using the EKOS carbon calculator and offset both our boats through EKOS.  I have been trying to minimize the waste the yacht generates. You will now find recycled cups on our boat which I purchased from our local Hospice shop. Remember the hard wearing Arcoroc cups from the 1980’s? Yep, they are still going strong.  I recently purchased a new rubbish bin to help with rubbish separation. We are very kee...
